ICM Abstract Images

Intentional Camera Movement, or ICM, uses deliberate camera movement during an exposure to transform familiar subjects into something more abstract.

Lines stretch and soften, colours blend, details dissolve and ordinary scenes take on a different character. Water can become sweeping bands of colour, trees can become rhythm and texture, and light can shift into soft trails, shapes and painterly marks.

The result is less about describing a place exactly as it appeared and more about movement, atmosphere, colour and mood. Some images retain a suggestion of the original subject, while others become more mysterious, leaving space for imagination and personal interpretation.

There is a sense of unpredictability in ICM that gives each image its own energy. The movement creates subtle variations in form and texture, allowing a scene to feel quiet, fluid, dreamlike, dramatic or completely transformed.
